Theatre Maladype (Budapest, Hungary)
University of Arts (Târgu-Mureș, Romania)
Conceived by Zoltán Balázs after short stories by Bruno Schultz
August is graduated performance of students of acting of the University of Arts of Târgu-Mureş, Romania. The performance is staged by the Hungarian actor, stage director and teacher Zoltán Balázs, artistic director of Maladype Theatre in Budapest.
August directed by Zoltán Balázs derives from Schulz’s metaphysics sentences and the elements of his philosophy, converted from the imagination and creative feelings of mankind into non-verbalism. The performance is based on the mathematically precise formulas of movements.
The acting is built up on movements, gestures, looks within an instinctive and dynamic performance, close to a ritual. This concentrated acting energy, according to the stage director, is the driving force of August and the reason why the audience doesn’t have to be familiar with Bruno Schulz’s oeuvre to appreciate the performance.
The project is supported by the Embassy of Hungary in the Russian Federation.
